Product Spotlight: CS1 – The New Live Sound Marvel Product Spotlight: CS1 – The New Live Sound Marvel ...
What does it take to create the world’s best live sound subwoofer? Designing it to have the utmost power was only half the challenge. Building it with this level of control was the other half. CS1 delivers both. As the first entry in our new CS Series, CS1 represents a fundamental rethinking of what large-format low-frequency reinforcement can achieve; combining extraordinary output, surgical control, and deployment efficiency within a single, elegantly engineered enclosure.

A New Standard for Low Frequency Control
At the largest scale of live sound, subwoofer performance has always involved a series of compromises. More output typically means more enclosures, and better directional control means more complex configurations.
Deployment speed and system consistency have often been in tension with each other. CS1 was designed from the ground up to dissolve those trade-offs.
The result is a professional sound system component that delivers up to 150 dB SPL with bandwidth extending down to 25 Hz, within a single enclosure that can be deployed in approximately a third of the time required by comparable large-format subwoofer arrays.
Ultra-Dense Architecture, Extraordinary Output
At the heart of CS1 is an ultra-dense acoustic architecture built around four 21-inch neodymium transducers. Two front-firing drivers work in concert with two side-mounted cardioid drivers, precisely aligned to maximize energy at the front of the array while delivering broadband cancellation at the rear and sides. The enclosure uses L-Acoustics patented cardioid topology, and the result is an integration of maximum impact and directional precision that would previously have required significantly more hardware to achieve.
The numbers speak clearly. CS1 sets new benchmarks for SPL per meter and SPL per square meter, consolidating the roles traditionally fulfilled by both K1-SB and KS28 into a single platform. Depending on the selected preset, it can operate as a low-frequency extension element within an L1 array or as an infra-subwoofer reinforcement system, making it one of the most versatile tools available to large-scale concert sound systems.

A New Class of Cardiod Subwoofers Built for Control at Any Venue
What makes CS1 genuinely remarkable is the precision with which its powerful output can be shaped and directed. Three selectable directivity modes, Cardioid, Supercardioid, and enhanced Side Rejection, allow engineers to tailor low-frequency behavior to the specific demands of any venue or outdoor site. Energy lands where the audience is. The stage stays clear. Neighboring communities benefit from a significantly reduced low-frequency footprint.
The Supercardioid preset maximizes rejection not just behind the system but beside it, making it a powerful tool in scenarios where on-stage energy management is critical. The Side Rejection presets take that capability further, allowing asymmetric narrowing of sub energy from a single enclosure, a level of flexibility that has simply not been available at this scale before.
When CS1 is deployed within an L1 array and powered by the LA7.16 amplified controller, the system gains an additional layer of intelligence through Autofilter. Using FIR filters to achieve independent control of magnitude and phase, Autofilter applies sub-low optimization across the full system, shaping how low-frequency energy is distributed in the vertical plane from the front row to the far field, all with zero added latency.

Designed for Modern Deployments
Designing a world-class live sound professional sound system component is one challenge. Making it practical to deploy at the pace of a world tour is another. CS1 addresses both with equal resolve. An integrated auto-lock rigging mechanism allows arrays to be assembled in roughly a third of the time required by comparable systems using captive rigging configurations. The CS1-CHARIOT transports up to four enclosures simultaneously, and the dedicated CS1-BUMP supports up to eight CS1 enclosures in a single flown array.
For productions using L1, the L1-BUMP accommodates up to 16 CS1 units, enabling the kind of scale that the world’s most demanding stadium tours and festival main stages require. Compatibility with both LA7.16 and LA12X amplified controllers means CS1 integrates cleanly into existing L‑Acoustics ecosystems, whether the system is built around L1 or K Series. And while CS1 is designed as part of the L1 system, its architecture and presets make it fully at home in large-format K Series deployments, offering the same precision, control, and bandwidth in traditional touring configurations. This cross‑compatibility means CS1 can serve as a seamless bridge between next‑generation L1 deployments and established K Series touring inventories, giving engineers and rental companies a flexible path forward without forcing a split between system families.
Also, when amplified with LA7.16, two CS1’s use 8 of the 16 available channels. So there are 8 additional channels left which can be used to amplify other parts of the system, such as front fills.

Who CS1 Is Built For
The benefits of CS1 extend across every stakeholder in a production. Audiences receive consistent, powerful, and musical low-frequency energy from the front row to the far field, without the muddiness or inconsistency that often plagues large-format subwoofer deployments. FOH engineers gain a stable, predictable platform that reduces time spent correcting system behavior and creates more space to focus on the mix itself. Event producers benefit from greater site control, a reduced visual footprint, and a system that makes compliance with noise restrictions meaningfully more achievable.
For rental companies, CS1 represents a long-term investment in fleet capability. As the anchor of the L1 ecosystem, it positions inventory at the forefront of large-scale sound reinforcement for the productions that set the standard.
A New Chapter for L-Acoustics Low Frequency
CS1 arrives as part of the same wave of innovation that produced the L1 large-format line array system, unveiled at the Hollywood Bowl this year. Together, they represent our most comprehensive reimagining of large-scale live sound in nearly two decades, grounded in the same commitment to acoustic excellence that has defined the company since the introduction of V-DOSC in the early 1990s.
With CS1, the question of what is possible in a professional sound system at large-format scale has a definitive new answer.
